The end of an era for Black music television? On a somber but necessary episode of The Rundown, Doggie Diamonds is breaking down the shocking news that BET is ending two of its flagship cultural events: The BET Hip Hop Awards and the Soul Train Awards.
In a stunning announcement, BET CEO Scott Mills confirmed that the network has indefinitely "suspended" both of the long-running award shows from its linear broadcast schedule. For years, the Hip Hop Awards (since 2006) were the spot for the culture, giving us legendary cyphers and honoring the rawest in the genre. The Soul Train Awards carried a legacy all the way back to 1987, celebrating the best in R&B and Soul music.
